Command Palette

The Command Palette lets you run any Inventor command from the keyboard, without hunting through ribbons and menus. Press a single key, type a few letters, and hit Enter. It is the Free tier of CADshift for Inventor — no account required.

Quick Start

  1. Make sure Autodesk Inventor is the active window
  2. Press S
  3. A small, filterable list of commands appears at your mouse cursor
  4. Type to narrow the list, use ↑ / ↓ to highlight, and press Enter to run the command
  5. Press Esc (or click elsewhere) to close it without doing anything

Why S?

S is the default trigger because it’s quick to reach and isn’t bound to a common Inventor shortcut. You can change it — see Changing the hotkey below.

Context-sensitive commands

The palette reads what you’re doing and offers commands that fit:

You’re in a…The palette favours…
Partmodelling, sketch, and feature commands
Assemblyplacement, constraint, and BOM commands
Drawingview, dimension, and annotation commands
Sketchsketch geometry and constraint commands

The full command list is still searchable — context only changes what surfaces first.

Filtering

  • Typing filters the list with a case-insensitive substring match on the command’s display name
  • Results update as you type, so a few characters is usually enough
  • The first matching command is preselected, so type + Enter runs the most likely command immediately

Pinned commands

Commands you use constantly can be pinned to the top of the palette so they’re always one keystroke away. Pinned commands are defined in your settings file (see below) and appear above the context results.

Changing the hotkey

Open CadShift Settings: in Inventor, go to the Tools tab, find the CadShift panel, and click CadShift. Under Hotkeys, click the Command Palette box and press the keys you want — a single key (S), a modifier combo (Ctrl+Space), or a short sequence (ZA) — then click Save. It applies immediately; no file editing and no restart.

Use Reset beside the box to return to the default (S).

Pick a free key

Choose a key that Inventor itself doesn’t already use, or your shortcut and Inventor’s will fight over the same keystroke.

Tips

  • The palette is a topmost overlay — it appears over Inventor and grabs the keyboard immediately, so you can start typing the instant it opens.
  • It closes on Esc, on Enter (after running), and when it loses focus, so it never gets in your way.
  • Because it’s keyboard-first, it pairs well with the Document Switcher for an entirely mouse-free workflow.
