Changelog
Changelog
Stay up to date with the latest improvements and fixes in CADshift for SOLIDWORKS.
Version 6.2.4
Release Date: September 2026
Everything CADshift installs is now digitally signed. Nothing else changed in this release.
Changes
- The installer and every file it puts on your machine carry a HYMMA signature — Windows can now confirm who published CADshift and that nothing has been altered since we built it, so the download no longer arrives from an “unknown publisher” and your antivirus has a verified publisher to check it against rather than an anonymous executable. The signature covers the add-in that loads into SOLIDWORKS and the background service as well as the installer itself, because it is the files that end up on disk — not just the thing you double-clicked — that security software actually inspects.
Version 6.2.3
Release Date: August 2026
Two changes to how CADshift updates itself, both in the direction of you staying in control.
Changes
- Updates are now yours to install — The background service no longer downloads and runs installers silently. When a new version is available, CADshift shows an update toast inside SOLIDWORKS; clicking Download opens the installer in your browser and you run it when it suits you. (Antivirus software increasingly — and reasonably — dislikes unattended installers running under system accounts; we agree with it.) The service itself stays, but now only forwards crash diagnostics.
- Leftover auto-downloaded installers are cleaned up on the first start after updating.
Bug Fixes
- The installer registers your trial under the new machine identity — completing the 6.2.1 licensing fix for machines where SOLIDWORKS never launched. Existing registrations migrate automatically.
Version 6.2.2
Release Date: August 2026
Completes the 6.2.1 licensing fix. 6.2.1 moved the add-in to the new machine identity, but the installer’s own license step still used the old one — so on a machine where SOLIDWORKS never launched, the trial was still registered under the collision-prone id. The installer now uses the same identity as the add-in, end to end.
Bug Fixes
- The installer registers your trial under the new machine identity — and migrates an existing registration automatically, same as the add-in does at startup.
Version 6.2.1
Release Date: August 2026
A licensing fix. If CADshift ever greeted you with someone else’s computer name — or a “trial expired” message on a machine that installed five minutes ago — this release is for you.
Bug Fixes
- Your trial is your trial — The add-in identified a computer by a hardware fingerprint that two unrelated machines could share: the processor id is the same for every CPU of that model, and many motherboards report a placeholder serial number instead of a real one. When two machines collided, the second one to arrive inherited the first one’s license record — including, in the worst case, an expired trial it never had. The identity is now based on the Windows installation itself, which is unique per machine. Existing installations are migrated automatically on the next start; nothing to re-enter, nothing to re-activate.
Version 6.2.0
Release Date: August 2026
This release is about trusting what you see. Several things were quietly doing nothing, or doing something different from what they showed you — a face you marked that wasn’t marked, a bounding box that wasn’t the minimum one, a grain direction that looked applied but wasn’t. Each of those now either works or tells you why it didn’t.
New Features
- A warning when the flat pattern is rolled back — With the rollback bar above the flat pattern, an export would succeed and produce folded geometry, with nothing to indicate it. The export preview now flags the part before you export, and re-checks at export time in case you moved the bar in between.
- Contours that enclose another layer’s geometry follow that layer’s action — An outline containing geometry belonging to a different layer is now routed with the cleanup action for that layer rather than the default.
- The profile’s Units setting drives every length field — Set the units once on the profile and the editor’s length fields follow it, instead of each field carrying its own assumption.
Improvements
- Warnings are hard to miss — Warnings now surface on the export card itself rather than only inside the report, so a part that exported with a caveat looks different from one that didn’t.
- The selected part’s picture sits on the left of the detail panel, full height, with its caption pinned underneath — the same layout in the DXF export preview and the BOM Manager.
- Bend-annotation text and offsets convert to the DXF’s units — Annotation sizes were written in the model’s units regardless of what the DXF was saved in, so text came out wildly over- or under-sized in millimetre files exported from inch parts.
- Tooltips follow the theme instead of staying light on a dark window.
Bug Fixes
- Marking an A-Face on a non-sheet-metal body did nothing, and looked like it worked — On a multibody part you could pick a face on a weldment or a plain solid. The face highlighted, the mark appeared to take, and nothing was recorded. It is now refused up front with the message explaining why.
- Solid bodies lost their grain rotation and their arrow — On the solid-body path the grain edge was never found, so the part was neither rotated to grain nor marked with the arrow. The export alignment made the DXF look oriented, which is what hid it.
- The minimum bounding box was neither minimum nor rotated — Drawing the axis-aligned box first invalidated the measurement, so the “minimum” box was re-measured around a drawing that now contained that rectangle — and came out as the same upright box, stacked on top of it. Every part got one axis-aligned box.
- Editing one profile bled into the next one selected — Clicking a different profile in the list committed the field you were editing into the newly selected profile. Every switch smeared a value across, and saving made it permanent.
- The grain arrow says when it could not be drawn instead of leaving the part looking as though no grain was marked.
- Report-preview ellipses are drawn at their real size, angle and bounds.
Behind the scenes
The theme, controls, layer editor, DXF core, export preview and data grid now build from a shared component library used by both CADshift products, so a fix in one reaches the other. Nesting has been removed from this product.
Version 6.1.0
Release Date: August 2026
You can now see the parts you’re exporting. The export preview shows a picture of every part beside its row, so a list of file names becomes something you can check at a glance — including the rows that failed, which previously told you nothing about which part had the problem.
New Features
- Part previews in the DXF export preview — Every row now shows a picture of its part. The list fills from the preview SOLIDWORKS already keeps inside each file, so it costs nothing and appears with the list. Hover for a larger view, or click a preview to open the part rendered properly at full size. Pictures are shared with the BOM Manager, so anything you have already looked at in one appears instantly in the other.
Improvements
- Failed rows say which part they are — When a part couldn’t be exported — for example when no face suitable for cutting could be found, or a component wouldn’t load — the row appeared blank: no part name, no output name, nothing to identify it by. Those rows now carry their part name and picture like any other, so you can see what needs fixing. The unloadable-component case also no longer adds a misleading “source file path is empty” error on top of the real reason.
- Column headings in the export preview now line up with the data underneath them.
Bug Fixes
- Your layer mapping could stop being applied, silently — If anything went wrong while the export preview was open, CADshift left its layer-mapping file locked. Every export after that quietly fell back to no mapping at all, so parts came out on the wrong layers with nothing to indicate why, and it persisted across restarts. The file is now always released, including when the preview fails.
- Dragging a column heading no longer crashes the export preview — Dragging any heading in the export preview — to group or reorder — closed the preview with a “MappingName is necessary” error, and could leave SOLIDWORKS unresponsive afterwards. Headings can now be dragged and grouped normally, and if the preview ever does fail it closes cleanly instead of taking SOLIDWORKS with it.
- Warnings are listed once — A row could show the same warning repeated several times — most often “Output directory does not exist” — which made the warning count look far worse than it was.
Version 6.0.0
Release Date: August 2026
The biggest release since 5.0. Everything a flat pattern needs before it reaches the cutting table — where the file lands, which way it faces, where its origin sits, and its opposite-hand twin — is now something you set once in a profile instead of fixing by hand on every part. Drawings get the same treatment: send a whole stamped, named, grouped PDF package straight from the BOM.
New Features
- Output folder mapping — Send exported files into a folder tree you describe with tokens, the same vocabulary the file name already uses (for example
<PROCESS>\<MATERIAL>). Custom properties work as tokens too, so the structure matches how your shop actually files work. Leave it empty and nothing about your output changes. - Nesting orientation — Turn every flat pattern to one rule before it’s saved: longest bend horizontal, longest edge horizontal, or along the marked grain. No more rotating each part by hand after import.
- Every DXF starts at the origin — Flat patterns are pinned so the part’s cutting geometry sits at (0,0) instead of wherever the model happened to put it, which is what made imported parts land scattered across the sheet.
- Opposite-hand (_R) copies — Save the mirrored left/right twin beside the original, from one model, instead of duplicating the part file and mirroring the body by hand. The copy is a true mirror: the outline flips and bend directions stay as they are, so it matches the flat pattern SOLIDWORKS exports for a genuinely mirrored part. The export preview marks which parts will get a copy — and which won’t, with the reason.
- Bend lines on multi-body parts — On multi-body sheet-metal parts SOLIDWORKS leaves bend lines out of the DXF. CADshift now works out where they belong, draws them, and labels them, reading each body against its own flat pattern. When it can’t confirm a position it says so instead of guessing, and the cut geometry is unaffected either way.
- Grain direction on multi-body parts — Mark the grain edge on any body of a multi-body part, not just single-body ones.
- Splines as straight segments — Convert every spline in the export to line segments at a chord accuracy you set, for CNC and engraving software that either can’t read splines or approximates them badly.
- Drawing packages from the BOM — Pick your drawings in the BOM Manager and send them out as one grouped PDF package: name each file from drawing tokens, group it into folders, stamp QR codes and watermarks, and see the whole package in a preview before anything is written. A transmittal report records what was produced.
- Weldment cutting plan (Professional) — A printable report of how each cut length was packed onto stock bars: what came from which bar, what’s left over, and which members couldn’t be placed.
- Stock inventory (Professional) — Keep a stock list the cutting plan reads before it packs and writes back after, with a reusable library of stock profiles.
Improvements
- The DXF profile editor gains Opposite Hand and Placement sections, a resizable navigation rail, and no longer discards unsaved edits when you close it
- Bend annotations, grain marking and A-face marking are now resolved per body, so a multi-body part no longer has one body’s data applied to another
Bug Fixes
- Your SOLIDWORKS export settings survive an export — CADshift changed four application-wide DXF/DWG options (mapping, the map-file list, the file index and the file version) and never put them back. After a single export your own File → Save As → DXF used CADshift’s map file at R2000-2002, and any map files you had set up in SOLIDWORKS’ own nine slots were silently discarded. All of them are now captured before the export and restored afterwards — including when the export fails part-way.
- BOM filtering works — Filtering the BOM grid could empty it completely, and columns backed by a custom property (such as Revision) offered nothing to filter on and removed every row when used. Filtering now shows the matching rows, and custom-property columns filter on the value shown in the cell.
Version 5.2.5
Release Date: July 2026
Bug Fixes
- DXF export now handles cylindrical and disc-shaped parts — Round parts such as thin discs, short cylinders and thick flanges could be rejected with “could not find any face suitable for laser cutting,” even though a flat face was clearly there. CADshift now picks the correct flat face on these parts, so they export the first time.
- Edited quantity is now written to the DXF — Changing a part’s Qty in the export preview now carries through to the exported file’s etch text and metadata note, instead of keeping the quantity captured when the part was first read.
- Clearer export-preview errors — When a part can’t be exported, the preview now shows the single underlying reason instead of stacking extra “file path is empty” errors on top of it, so it’s obvious what actually needs fixing.
Reliability
- Steadier face selection — Using the Collect widest face button on a part that had just been rolled back or rebuilt could, in rare cases, destabilise SOLIDWORKS. The button now fails safely with a message instead.
Version 5.2.4
Release Date: June 2026
Bug Fixes
- Fixed DXF export failing on some sheet-metal parts — Certain sheet-metal parts reported “Sheet metal feature not found for body marked as sheet metal” on the first DXF export and would only work after you manually flattened and un-flattened them. CADshift now detects this and rebuilds the part automatically, so the export succeeds the first time.
- Etched text now reads every custom property — Custom properties such as Description and Size were left blank in etch text unless they had also been added as metadata fields. Etch tokens now read every custom property directly from the part — the same way the file-name and metadata fields already do.
Version 5.2.3
Release Date: June 2026
Improvements
- Redesigned licence window — Your licences now appear as clear cards grouped by plan (Annual / Monthly) instead of a dropdown. Each card shows its own status, validity and the relevant action (Register, Unregister or Refresh), loads its status automatically with a loading indicator, and the window now fills the available space with proper button feedback.
- Clearer licence status wording — Each licence state now reads unambiguously — for example, a computer you’ve removed now shows “Computer Unregistered” instead of “Not registered”.
Version 5.2.2
Release Date: June 2026
New Features
- Update notifications inside SOLIDWORKS — When a newer version of CADshift is available, a notification now appears in the corner of SOLIDWORKS with a link to what’s changed and a one-click download, so you’re never unknowingly stuck on an old build.
- New one-click installer — CADshift now ships as a single branded installer that walks you through setup, replacing the previous bare Windows Installer package.
Reliability
- Hardened automatic updates — The background updater now verifies every download’s integrity before installing and hands off cleanly while replacing itself, so updates apply reliably without leaving the service in a bad state.
Version 5.2.1
Release Date: June 2026
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an intermittent crash during DXF export — On some parts, exporting a flat pattern to DXF could close SOLIDWORKS unexpectedly. The geometry engine that computes the part’s minimum bounding box has been hardened against duplicate, collinear, and invalid points, so DXF export is now stable.
Reliability
- More reliable background updates — The CADshift background service now reports its own errors with full detail, so any future issue can be diagnosed and resolved faster.
Version 5.2.0
Release Date: June 2026
New Features
- Monthly subscription plans — Basic and Professional can now be purchased monthly as well as annually. The add-in recognises a monthly licence automatically — activate it with your product key the same way, and your plan stays active for as long as the subscription is current.
Version 5.1.0
Release Date: June 2026
New Features
- Formula IntelliSense in the Fastener grid — The fastener properties grid’s formula bar now has the same autocomplete as the BOM Manager: type
=for function suggestions and[to pick column names, with live syntax highlighting as you type
Bug Fixes
- Fixed custom fastener properties exporting blank — A custom property whose value was a formula referencing another cell (e.g.
=concat({Size:2},"-")) came out empty on the generated part. Formulas are now evaluated to the exact value shown in the grid before being written as the SOLIDWORKS custom property
Version 5.0.0
Release Date: June 2026
New Features
- DXF Output Profiles — Create, save, and switch between named export profiles that bundle layer routing, bend annotations, grain direction, etch text, and laser filtering. A three-pane editor with a live sample-DXF preview lets you see styling and layer changes as you make them
- Bend Annotation Tokens — Add customizable text to each bend line (bend number, angle, direction, radius, bend deduction, K-factor, thickness, length) using a visual token editor with live preview; supports per-token decimals and units
- Mark Grain Direction — Mark a straight edge as the sheet grain (rolling) direction; the export draws a double-headed GRAIN arrow aligned to that edge below the flat pattern
- Etch Text (Professional) — Place part metadata (part number, material, quantity, custom properties, …) as etched text that auto-fits into the clear area of the flat pattern, avoiding holes, bends, and inner cuts
- Slot & Cutout Recognition — Inner contours are geometrically classified and routed to dedicated layers: round holes, obround slots, and generic cutouts each get their own layer
- Per-Part Layer Overrides — Adjust layer name, colour, line type, and visibility for an individual part right from the export preview, reusing the shared layer grid
- Fastener Manager — Build a complete bolt-set (bolt or screw, washer under the head, washer above the nut, and nut) and insert it into an assembly already stacked, mated together, and seated in the hole. Open it from the Fasteners ribbon button or by right-clicking a hole and choosing Insert Fastener
- Hole-aware insertion — Right-clicking a hole pre-fills the bolt standard and size from the hole (Hole Wizard data, or the measured diameter with your clearance), and puts the bolt head on the face you clicked
- Pattern insertion — When the hole belongs to a hole pattern, insert the same bolt-set into every hole in the pattern in one step
- Live bolt-set preview — A cross-section drawing redraws as you configure the stack and flags when the bolt is too short for the parts you’ve added
- Toolbox or Custom output — Save inserted hardware as simplified Toolbox-style parts, or as fully editable parts and sub-assemblies
- Save fastener to library (Professional) — Export a configured bolt-set as a reusable library part — optionally a single multi-configuration file spanning a range of diameters and/or lengths — with a colour-coded build report
- Feature Tiers (Free / Basic / Professional) — Pro-only capabilities (etch text, bend annotations, advanced hole routing, laser filtering, trim, fastener save-to-library) show in-app upgrade prompts and tier badges
- German & Spanish Localization — The entire add-in interface (DXF export, profile editor, BOM manager, fastener tools, nesting) is now fully localized for German (de-DE) and Spanish (es)
Improvements
- AutoCAD-style colour picker — The layer colour picker now matches the AutoCAD Select Color layout with the full ACI index and a typed-index field
- Save-as-PDF command promoted to its own ribbon box, shown first
- Feature telemetry ships to a self-hosted Seq instance for faster diagnostics
Bug Fixes
- Fixed bounding boxes ignoring arcs and splines — Min-area and axis-aligned boxes now sample every curve, so they no longer clip arc edges or hug an inner hole
- Fixed up-bends not trimmed and layers exported white — The DXF map-file colour fallback was limited to eight colours; layers now export their real ACI colour and up-bend trimming matches by layer name
- Fixed bend-line trim doing nothing — Trim length was passed through a millimetre-to-metre converter; it now stays in millimetres
- Fixed etch text landing inside a hole and hole routing doing nothing — The contour-assembly tolerance was a thousand times too tight for SolidWorks endpoint jitter; outlines now chain reliably
- Fixed grain marking on a bend-tangent edge — Such edges vanish when flattening; they are now rejected with a clear message
- Fixed report spline curves drawn as straight lines — Splines now evaluate the real curve
- Fixed repeated exports corrupting the part — Flatten/restore now rebuilds on both sides
Version 4.3.0
Release Date: March 2026
New Features
- Persistent Column Profiles — BOM Manager remembers your visible columns and their order per document across sessions
- Persistent Formula Columns — User-defined formula columns (name + formula) are saved per document and restored automatically on reopen
- Formula Bar Confirm/Cancel Buttons — Excel-like checkmark and X buttons appear when editing in the formula bar; Enter confirms, Esc cancels
- Stale Data Detection — Detects when SolidWorks hasn’t finished rebuilding the assembly and offers a one-click Force Rebuild & Retry
- Save Button — “Apply to SW” renamed to “Save” with floppy disk icon; custom property changes are now saved directly to part files on disk
Bug Fixes
- Fixed Quantity overwritten by custom properties — Built-in columns (Quantity, Material, etc.) are no longer overwritten by custom properties with the same name
- Fixed formulas not working in nested sub-assemblies — All tree rows are now expanded in the SheetModel, matching the grid’s visual state, so formulas and fill handle work for every row
- Fixed fill handle not moving on column resize — Fill handle position now updates after column resize completes
- Fixed formula bar not updating on column switch — Clicking a different column on the same row now immediately updates the formula bar
- Fixed thumbnail column empty on restore — Thumbnail lazy loading now triggers when the column is restored from a saved profile
- Fixed formula columns turning to static content — Default formulas now always override stale literal values from custom properties
- Fixed grid stuck after drag-fill — Reference mode, editing state, and cell highlights are properly cleared after fill completes
Version 4.2.0
Release Date: March 2026
New Features
- Mark A-Face - Mark the protected/mirror-finish side of sheet metal parts to control flat pattern orientation. Right-click a face to set it as the A-face, which highlights all same-side faces and sets the flat pattern fixed face
- Clear A-Face - Remove the A-face marking and reset to default orientation
- Most Up-Bends Face Up - New opt-in setting in DXF export to flip the flat pattern so the side with more up-bends faces up. When flipping, hidden edge entities (e.g. CSK countersink circles) are moved to the profile layer
- DXF Export Preview redesign - Settings popup and unified status card in the export preview window
Bug Fixes
- Fixed same-side face detection - Bend traversal now correctly follows straight edges (generator lines to flanges) instead of arcs (to thickness faces), preventing side/thickness faces from being highlighted
- Fixed A-face attribute attachment - Attribute is now attached before modifying the flat pattern feature to avoid stale COM reference errors
- Fixed stuck cursor after DXF export - Mouse cursor is reset after export completes to prevent resize cursor from persisting
- Fixed PMP layers tab width - Empty checkable group no longer causes SolidWorks to miscalculate the PropertyManagerPage panel width
